Buffering and stalls
Updated 16 September 2026
Work out whose problem it is first, then the one setting in AnyTV that helps.
Buffering is nearly always about the path between your provider's server and your screen. Before changing settings, find out where it breaks.
Narrow it down
- Does it happen on every channel? If only some channels stall, it is those streams.
- Does it happen from a second source? If one provider stalls and another does not, it is that provider.
- Does it happen on a second device? If only one device stalls, look at that device's network.
- Does it happen on wired vs wireless? Wi-Fi congestion is a common culprit on a TV across the house from the router.
The setting that helps
AnyTV can load more of a stream in advance before playing, which smooths over an unsteady connection at the cost of a slightly slower start.
- Start playing something.
- Open More options in the player toolbar.
- Advanced preferences → Forward buffer duration.
- Raise it. The default is 5 seconds; 10-15 helps on unstable connections.
Other things worth trying
- Choose a lower quality stream where your provider offers several.
- Switch player engine. AnyTV includes more than one, and a stream that stutters on one sometimes plays cleanly on another.
- On Wi-Fi, move to 5 GHz or use Ethernet on a TV.
What will not help
Reinstalling the app, or clearing the library. Neither touches the network path the video travels.
